The subject of English has been taught in the college since its inception in 1990 and was introduced as a special subject in 2010. The Department of English plays a vital role in developing students’ language proficiency, communication skills, creativity, critical thinking and professional competence.

As the college is situated in the rural and tribal region of Nasarapur, Taluka Bhor, District Pune, the Department gives special attention to the needs of rural and tribal students. It aims to improve their oral and written communication skills in English and to help them gain confidence in using English for higher education, employment, and social interaction.

Through the study of language and literature, the Department encourages students to develop creative, analytical, and humanistic perspectives. It also focuses on understanding the communication strategies used by rural and tribal students and improving their speaking abilities through practical activities.

The Department of English at PDEA’s Shankarrao Bhelke College offers Bachelor’s degree programmes in English along with a Spoken English course designed to develop professional communication skills. With well-qualified faculty, a language laboratory, and a Literary Society, the Department ensures the overall academic and personality development of students.
